Abbey site of Saint-Maurice
Historic monument, Property of the Conservatoire du Littoral, Member of the European Charter of Cistercian Abbeys
Saint-Maurice Abbey as you have never seen it before... or rather heard it thanks to the audio tour. A former Cistercian abbey, now owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, it was founded in the 12th century. It is ideally situated on the banks of the river Laïta, in an exceptional landscape.
Remodeled and then damaged in the past, it still offers us a 13th century chapter house, a beautiful church pediment, gardens and century-old trees.
The farm houses exhibitions on the history of the abbey, temporary exhibitions and a 14-minute film. It takes about 1.5 hours to visit.
